Split shifts and breaks
When a worker’s shift includes a break period, you can use the split shift feature to separate paid and unpaid segments. Each split can have its own service code, duration, and rate. For detailed instructions on setting up split shifts, see Creating recurring shifts.Auto split shift
The auto split shift feature automatically splits shifts at midnight when pay rates change - for example, when an overnight shift crosses from a weekday into a weekend or public holiday. To enable this feature:- Go to Settings (cog icon) → Settings → Rostering tab
- Tick the Auto Split Shift box
Auto split only applies to shifts that cross rate change boundaries, such as a Friday night into Saturday or a Saturday into Sunday. Standard weeknight overnight shifts are not split.
How breaks flow through to timesheets
When you use split shifts, each segment appears as a separate line item in timesheets. This makes it straightforward to:- Track paid and unpaid portions of a shift
- Apply different service codes to different parts of the shift
- Ensure correct pay rates are calculated for each segment
